Building a concrete block and liner swimming pool
Most people prefer this type of pool installation.as it is a much more stable method of construction.
- Once the pool is marked out in the required location, excavation can begin.
- After excavation is completed, the excavated pool area is marked out once again and a concrete strip foundation is laid around the excavated perimeter of the pool
- The walls are then built on top of the strip foundations with 9” (225mm) solid concrete blocks.
- As the wall are constructed inlets are fitted and bedded into the walls at various positions
- Once the walls are built, They are rendered to a smooth finish. Linerlock is fixed in place and the pool coping is laid, on top of the block walls
- The first fix of the pool plumbing system is completed with the pool flow and return pipes exiting to where the plant room is situated ready for the final connections to the isolating valves, pool pump and filter... »
The next stages of the pool installation are as follows:
- After the pipework has been laid and tested the pool is then ready to be backfilled
- The pool decking is laid either with concrete, paving, tiles brick paving, etc
- Then following the above stages precise points and lines are marked and set up on the pool base then a smooth sand and cement screed is applied to those particular points and lines
- Once the pool base has set and dried, the pool shell is rubbed down to remove any sharp objects and thoroughly cleaned down
- Underlay is then fixed to the walls and floor of the pool shell
- We are now into the finals stages of the pool where a manufactured vinyl liner is then fitted to the pool (This is the water proof lining that holds the pool water)
This method of pool construction is less labour intensive than a concrete tiled pool and requires fewer building materials, and is much more cost effective and less time consuming than a concrete pool installation
There is a few things to consider first before there is a start on the pool installation
- What is beneath your feet? Clay, rock, water, sand, an old infill site?
- This important information would be required by any pool installer or builder worth their salt. For example if there is a high water table, this may affect the pool in different ways and certain actions need to be taken before the pool is constructed
- Is the soil to remain on-site or taken away? There are ways and means to keep most of the subsoil on-site but this may involve some sacrifices in the pools finished level
- Is there good access for a digger, a dumper and for the pool equipment and materials
- It's recommended that felt underlay is fixed on the pool walls and floor to protect & extend the life of the pool liner
- There is a choice of patterns, colours and tilebands
- There is two different thicknesses 0.50mm (20thou) and 0.75mm (30thou)
